   Classes at The Mulligan School of Irish Dance


Beginneris a new student. At this level a dancer will learn the elementary movements of Irish Step Dance. They will be required to purchase shoes, the class spirit wear & a beginner school costume. The student at this level will be prepared to dance at St.Patrick's Day parade & compete at feisanna at the beginner level. 
Advanced Beginneris a student that has been dancing more than one year. At this level a dancer will learn the secondary movements of Irish Step Dance. Secondary movements include reels, jigs, slip jigs, single jigs & beginner heavy shoe. The major emphasis will be focused on form and posture. This level of dance will require the dancer to attend one workshop a year. Class spirit is required along with a beginner school costume (at some point, an advanced school costume will be needed). The student at this level will be prepared to perform at St.Patrick's Day parade & compete at feisanna at this level.

Novice is a student who has earned this title by placing at feisanna or has been placed in this class by the instructor. At this level the dancer will learn the advanced secondary movements of Irish Step Dance. Advanced secondary movements include, reels, jigs, slip jig, single jigs, fast hornpipes, treble jigs, & traditional sets. the more advanced student will then progress into slow hornpipe and treble jigs. This is a competitive level of dance and the students at this level will be required to attend all workshops. Class spirit wear is required along with an advanced school costume. The student at this level will be prepared to perform at St. Patrick's Day Parade & shows & compete at the novice level at feisanna.
Prizewinner is a student who has earned this title by placing at feisanna or has been placed in this class by the instructor. At this level a dancer will learn the advanced movements of Irish Step dance. the advanced movements include reels, slip jigs, slow hornpipe, treble jigs, & traditional sets. The student at this level is required to master proper placement, form & posture. This is a competitive level of dance & the dancers are required to attend All workshops. Class spirit wear is required along with an advanced school costume. The student at this level will be prepared to perform at St. Patrick's Day parade & shows and compete at the prizewinner level at feisanna.

Championship is a student who has earned this title by placing at feisanna or has been placed in this class by the instructor. At this level a dancer will learn the Championship movements of Irish Step Dance. Dancers will learn a lead and two in the reel, slip jig, hornpipe & treble jig, along with set pieces. These dancers will be required to compete at the Oireachtas (regionals) and attend all workshops. This is a very competitive level of dance. Class spirit wear is required along with an advanced school costume. The student at this level will be prepared to perform at St. Patrick's Day parade and shows and compete at the Championship level at feisanna.

Ceili is a student who has been dancing more than one year. In this class the dancer will learn competitive group dances. The dancers will be prepared to dance four hands and eight hands at local feisanna and at the Oireachtas & Nationals. All dancers are required to attend extra practices before major competitions. This will be a fun but demanding class. Class spirit wear is required along with school costumes.

Adult is an adult student who is interested in learning the basics of Irish Step dance. At this level a dancer will learn the elementary movements of the reel, jig & slip jig. The dancer in this class will also be introduced to the basic ceili dances. Competition is suggested, but thefocus of this class is to have fun while learning the elementary movements of Irish Step Dance.
